Custom Error Pages
Get familiar with website error pages. Learn when they show up and why you should set up your own custom error pages.
If a certain page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is broken, the website visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which can make the visitor leave your site. A possible solution in cases like this is a feature made available from some hosting companies - the option to set your own custom error pages which will have the same design as your Internet site and which can contain any images or text that you would like dependent upon the particular error. There are 4 standard errors that could occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it can't be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some page, but you have not done this yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a specific page; and 404, when a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In each of these situations, visitors will be able to see your personalized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Website Hosting
You'll be able to set up custom made error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all
cloud website hosting plans which we provide, so when you log in to your Hepsia Control Panel and visit the Hosted Domains section, you may click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will be displayed, you can choose the sort of error page that should appear - a default one from our system, a typical Apache web server page or a custom one. For the aforementioned alternative, you'll have to assign the URL to the page, so if you use custom pages, you must upload the files in your hosting account first. An alternative way is to use an .htaccess file positioned inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each error type. The exact syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you do not have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you host your websites in a
semi-dedicated server account with our company, you could set customized error pages for each of them with ease through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With a few mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you are able to change the default setting from a system page to a custom one for each of the 4 error types. All you should do is supply a link to each file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you'll be able to revert this modification whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you may use an .htaccess file too. It must be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder associated with the website whose error pages you would like to alter and the content for this kind of file can be found in our Help article about this matter.
